PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jazz Bar
INSPIRATION: The story of old Shanghai with jazz. The space of JZ club was inspired by old Shanghai atmosphere which is colored with crimson symbolizing China. Jazz music, the mood of old Shanghai and the color of crimson mix together to bring out an ambience of mystery.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In October 2016, after 12 years run on Fuxing Lu, the JZ Club unveiled their new location at Found 158, formerly known as Datong Mill, in the middle of a local park on Julu Lu, Shanghai. The JZ Club is one of the most well known jazz clubs in Shanghai, and even in China. They have been attracted jazz lovers since it launched. Studio C8 created a spatial identity for this place where was marked a new chapter in the history of the JZ Club.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: -
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April, completed in September and was opened in October 2016. It was located at Found 158, Shanghai China.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Inspired by old Shanghai, the use of the grey brick as a backdrop. The red Italian stucco wall and curtains adorn the walls are used to highlight the space ambience. Art deco lamps dimly illuminate the tables. Old Shanghai accents are sprinkled throughout. It creates a mysterious yet intimate place for all.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total useful floor area of this property is around 500 square meter (including area of kitchen which is around 27 square meter) and 4.56 m ceiling hight under the slab.

CHALLENGE: The JZ Club is one of the most well known jazz clubs in Shanghai. Live music seven days a week and the unique ambience of the place, it has been attracted jazz lovers. It really needed to keep the original atmosphere of JZ Club at the new venue, that was the biggest question of the owner to studio C8.
To create a new atmosphere, based on the original mood. The design team aimed to elevate its characteristic ambience and the exciting experience of enjoying jazz music.
