DESIGN NAME: The Experience Floor
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Space
INSPIRATION: Art played an essential role in conveying a sense of creativity in The Experience Floor. Belgium has a long and storied history with comics, as the country responsible for such classics as The Adventures of TinTin and The Smurfs. Virserius Studio wanted to reference that cartoon tradition and style with an eye to bring it to new generations.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Experience Floor at Hotel NH Brussels Bloom signaled confidence in Belgium's hospitality industry, which took a hit after the terrorist attacks. The opening of the space also coincided with Bloom's 10 year anniversary as an art hotel.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Since its opening, The Experience Floor has become a place where guests can spend their day, whether they are working, eating, meeting or playing. The design of the space encourages all types of interaction.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in January 2016 in Brussels, Belgium and was completed in Fall 2016. The space formally opened in November 2016.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: NH Brussels Bloom sold space for events before the project formally began, based on the concepts alone. As a result, there were very tight deadlines to be met, so that the hotel did not lose sales that were particularly important during this uncertain time. Also, the floors are large but also subterranean, so another challenge for this project was to make the spaces as bright and lively as possible.
