DESIGN NAME: eki clock
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wall clock
INSPIRATION: Takenobu Igarashi is the designer behind the Big Clock of Stars which hangs on the outer wall of Sapporo Station in Hokkaido Japan since 2003. He has also designed another clock on both east and west concourses of the same station. He has tried to apply the experience of designing the public clocks in a way for easy reading into the design of a clock fitting into private living.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This clock was introduced with its design direction based on the Sapporo Station Clocks. The clock has a beautifully designed dial with original number types and its clock numbers half below are especially designed in a way for easy reading from the ground. Its frame is made with aluminum sand casting and lathing. The distance between its dial and glass is minimized. It is truly a design wall clock in its ultimate simplicity.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Since the clock was designed to use at a train station, the visibility as a clock is high with the original dials and the color combination of black and white. Due to the visibility, the clock easily fits into any spaces though it is used not as a public clock but as a home clock.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The original design has been completed in 2003 as the public clock for Sapporo station in Japan. The product has been released in 2016.
