| DESIGN NAME: Poizo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart space heater INSPIRATION: Poizo team was inspired by the indoor micro climates and personal comfort issues. Consumers can save a significant cost on energy bills by reducing room temperature and using local heaters in the areas they usually stays. Setting the convenient room temperature for multiple users creates problem in 20% of the households. Some of the family members feeling cold while others have comfort, or in reverse. It was impossible to solve this issue before Poizo. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Poizo is a smart far-infrared space heater, which projects the heat precisely and only on its users around. It is able to locate them and communicate through wireless connection to optimize the personal comfort and cost effectiveness using a healthy far inrared heating technology. Poizo makes possible for multiple user at a same time and same place to adjust temperature to their comfort needs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Poizo has sensors integrated to detect the presence of users. Multiple users can set the heat according to their needs the same time via smartphone or the touch interface on the appliance. Poizo heats on the set temperature and turns off as soon as the user leaves the area. With this technology we can achieve a better user experience for everybody staying in the same room, and also higher cost efficiency as we don't need to heat the rest of the room. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2017 and already got awarded by the prestigious MVM Edison Innovation Award in Hungary. Poizo is in the engineering development phase. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Poizo is constructed by 6 Far-infrared heater panels working independently on preferred temperature set by the users. Each of the 6 panels are 350W and projects the heat precisely to the user in front of the actual panel(s). My aim was to minimize the "visual noise" in the home environment. Poizo is pure in its functions, it has a simple touch interface and a mobile app to control. Poizo wish to use battery to extend the freedom of usage, so we decided the docking solution. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 350 mm x 350 mm x 550 mm TAGS: smart, spaceheater, poizo, smartheater, portable, heater, iot RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Poizo project started with an extended consumer research to define existing daily comfort issues in the users home. We were looking for the right technology to find the potential solutions for the collected issues. Poizo have been supported by IBM Hungary and we used IBM Design Thinking method to create a new product experience. We analysed different personas, use case scenarios, performed empathy mapping, simulations and constantly iterated the process to get to the right solution. We were testing a scale 1:1 model with potential consumers and created a tech demo prototype also. CHALLENGE: Squeezing technology into a limited size skeleton.
