| DESIGN NAME: Mandarin Debating Competition 2016 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Brand Identity INSPIRATION: My inspiration came from the composition of Chinese character. I want to take this structure design into Mandarin debating competition branding design, using the key elements of debating to create a new visual language. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The key visual language of my design is the Chinese character of “Bian”, which means debating. In my design, this “Bian” character is constructed with the basic shape of “plus”, “minus” and “zero”, which symbolized the threes important roles of Proposition, Opposition and Judge from debating competition. The Chinese and the English standard typeface design all adopt the square and the circle concept. My fonts and symbols design are followed by a strict grid arrangement and scaling, this design intend to represents the intense atmosphere of debating competition. And when look at into each grid arrangements separately and into detail, you will discover the rigorous logic and order of debating competition. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The red logo and its flexible application made a strong impression. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2016 and finished in April 2016 in Nanjing,China. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Art paper and screen print. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This branding visual system include many different elements, such as , font system, printing materials, souvenirs and advertisement. Each part would using different printing methods and materials. TAGS: Branding design, Logo, Communication, Debate, Chinese character RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First,l used questionnaire.l asked some questions to students from different universities to know what they like.Then l communicated with the organizing committee,trying to know their opinion. CHALLENGE: This debating competition is held by Nanjing Audit University. Every year, many universities from different countries come to participate in this debating competition, so l want to convey an enthusiastic and logic feeling from a Chinese symbol. Finally, l find the connection between Chinese character "Bian" which means "debate" and the graphic of plus sign, minus sign and zero sign.
