DESIGN NAME: Bovet Clock Tower
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clock Tower
INSPIRATION: The tower’s shape is a contemporary interpretation of a classic clocktower. Its moebius strip represents the conception of infinity and the eternal cycle of time. Depending on the perspective, this theme is further reinforced by the perceived shape of an eight, a symbol of luck and fortune in Chinese culture.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In association with Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Bovet, we’ve developed a five metre clocktower installation. Placed in the Asterium Towers of Seoul’s Yongsan Business District, it serves both as an attraction and a meeting point.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Forming the energetic core of a newly designed lobby area, the Bovet Clock Tower not only is a fascinating piece of art but also acts as a strong brand ambassador. Moreover, it inspires viewers to reflect on one of life’s great themes: the transience of time.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: permanent
Asterium Tower, Yongsan Business District, Seoul.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The clocktower’s structure consists of a 3D CAD data-based and perfectly moulded hollow steel strap, which gently reflects the surrounding light on its bead-blasted surface. Small light spots on the watchstrap’s sides periodically create a fascinating play of light, resembling small units of time flying across the tower’s curves.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: height: 5 meter
depth: 2.5 meter
diameter of enhanced watches: 65 centimeter
TAGS: clocktower, luxury manufacturer, landmark, watches
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The oversized dials and watch cases represent the original proportions, materials and details of Bovet’s classic AI43 “Monsieur Bovet” and AIFSQ “Amedeo Amedeo” timepieces. At this scale (65cm diameter) even the finest details of design and craftmanship become visible.
CHALLENGE: Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Bovetasked us to design a modern clock tower. The task was to create a landmark which is highly recognizable and serves both as an attraction and a meeting point.
