DESIGN NAME: Saladice
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Condiment container
INSPIRATION: At the base of the project is the observed user experience and life styles that change. Everyone's tastes have evolved and we all like to personalize our dishes. Salad is an indication of this: green, mixed, caesar, tuna, greek, gourmet, avocado and so on. They all require specific condiments, spices, sauces to be added and those can take up space and create chaos on the table. Saladice is a practical way to organize everything and enrich table and salad alike.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It's a condiment container, which becomes a centre piece or a candle holder. The various dishes we consume call for many different condiment, which will dictate how our centre piece comes together, depending on the condiments needed. Each cube is equipped with magnets that fix it to the upper and bottom ones and the base is the only non cubic form. It can hold tooth picks or flowers or even candles and can vary in height and colour according to what is inserted. It can be used at home or restaurant. It is not only a new product, but also a new system of table clothing and wearing.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It's all very simple: I choose the dish and compose the condiment holder. I then bring it all to the table and use the condiments by removing the cubes needed and then put them back. At the restaurant, it's already on the table ready to use and makes a nice decorative element and can be a candle holder or flower pot. Saladice colours and decorates the table with a minimal effort. It gives maximum flexibility of use and can be divided into multiple elements to create nice colourful decorations.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in January 2017 and finished in August 2017 in Teramo.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The containers are in pressed transparent plastic. The base and handle are in pressed aluminum. The magnets have a 6kg max attractive power and the caps are pressed or made in aluminum.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Each container cube is 60 x 60 x 60 mm.
The tower is built with the cubes and should not exceed a height of more than 6 cubes, not including base and handle, for a total of 450mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I wanted to give more value to objects whose form and use are simple but deriving from an attentive study of all the psychological, functional, cultural and aesthetic variables which often go unnoticed. I wanted to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. A world where curiosity beauty and humour are commonplace and where the instruction manual is superfluous because intuition and memory guide us better.
CHALLENGE: One of the cardinal aspects of the project was the transformation of gestures and habits into functional and aesthetic form. From the observation of these habits we get much input that can be turned into optimization, to make the gestures more fluid, our actions more comfortable and reduce time. Getting up from the table to get the missing ingredient and having a clutter on the table are the two challenges saladice fixes while adding something to the table
