| DESIGN NAME: Athra, The Fiery Table PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee table INSPIRATION: The fiery light inside the Athra is inspired by Zoroastrianism, an ancient Iranian religion, in which the word Athra is used to mean a fire or flame as a symbol of the energy within an entity or of the spiritual aspects of one's life. Furthermore, the Athra table is inspired by geometric patterns in architecture, which are the symbol of worship and ideal in Iranian culture. These patterns are widespread in Safavid Iranian architecture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: One of the aspects of the Athra table is that it shows the transition from tradition to modernity as it happens in our society. In its corner, an electronic light in a fiery red color is used to produce a cozy environment. The geometric pattern which covers the light is used to illustrate Iranian culture. The other feature is the capability of modularity. The Athra table is designed so that it can be expanded into various designs, and it provides a sense of unity and ideality. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I would recommend this as furniture for the lobbies of hotels, coffee shops, diplomatic buildings and homes. The modular Athra table is designed in a way that is designed to be expanded and formed into various designs and configurations based on the available space and human desire. Furthermore, people (especially tourists) are always looking for cozy and traditional environments, and by using the lighting inside the table, they can have a unique experience. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started April 2016 in Tehran and finished in July 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It is recommended to use colorful plywood and a 5-axis CNC machine for cutting and forming. Then electric lighting system included wires and switches have been hidden inside the table. For electrical lighting, the warm LED lighting system could be used, which operates in different color modes. LED lighting system, translucent Plexiglas for hiding and covering the lighting system, High Quality 16 mm Plywood TAGS: Furniture, fiery, culture, table, modular, geometric, symbolic, lighting RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To convey Iran's rich cultural identities to local and international tourists, the artifacts must be appropriately customized and localized. This investigation measured local and international tourists' expectations to define a process through which Iran's cultural resources can be extracted. Results indicate that all guests look for cozy and traditional environments. To reach the cozy environment, the hidden fiery lighting system is used and geometric patterns are utilized to present the cultural identity. CHALLENGE: The challenge on this project was to use the geometrical pattern in 3D shape. In addition, cutting the wood to form the geometric pattern with precise angles would be a challenge in manufacturing process.
