DESIGN NAME: v.az
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Partition Screen
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this project came from some patterns of leaf coloring, found in Brazil. This piece of furniture was drawn on a computer and inspired on triangular patterns of leaf coloring, such as those in the false shamrock and the calathea-louisae. This inspired the creation of opposing triangular openings. This openings were drawn in a parametric program and further explored in accordance to the shape and measures of this piece of furniture.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: v.az is a partition screen that transmits the idea of fluidity. Due to its soft openings and the idea of movement these transmit, it is a poetic and interactive furniture piece.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When the shape is changed, what is revealed on the background changes as well due to its openings. This piece of furniture is very easy to pack and unpack, as it wraps completely and it facilitates transport and storage.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2016 in Sao Paulo and finished in August 2016 in Sao Paulo, and was exhibited in MADE fair in August 2016.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project was created with a 3-D modeler program (Rhinoceros) and its parametric plug in (Grasshopper). Its construction process was partially digital and partially artisanal. The pinewood strips cut in a CNC constituted the digital part and its assemblage and finishing was equivalent to the artisanal.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of the project development was to know where to place the steel cables because the openings occupy a large extension of the furniture piece. A lot of tests were made regarding the place, sizes and tensile forces of the steel cables.
