DESIGN NAME: Thalia
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Washbasin
INSPIRATION: I wanted to bring nature inside the bathroom; Watching and studying the lotus flower are born the forms of the washbasin and the tension that is created at the encounter between form and material. Wood was the best material to express this concept. The choice of larch and teak is not casual, two European and one eastern woods that have always been used in the realization of ships and therefore perfect for getting in touch with water.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Washbasin looking like a bud ready to bloom and fill up: it is so blooming that it was made from a skilful union of solid wood larch and teak, an essence in the upper part and the other in the lower. A firm and safe match, providing a special elegance touch and colour liveliness with a cheerful intertwining of grains with always different hues that produce unique washbasins.
The beauty of this object is characterized by its asymmetry and harmony by the encounter of different shapes and woody ess
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A washbasin recalling a flower, made of natural wood, simple, beautiful and functional. An object to touch and smell, hard not to fall in love.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was born in Italy in the city of Udine and lasted 6 months in 2008.Thalia has participated in numerous fairs in Italy and abroad.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design was initially hand-shredded, then I went to the 2D design to check the proportions, and finally I passed the 3D model. My model has been verified by an expert who placed it inside a CNC machine has numerical control.
The mechanical arm then milled for hours a solid wooden teak and a larch block. The two washbasins were then cut and glued to make the teak and larch mixed wood washbasin to be hand-sanded and oil-impregnated

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My design is very instinctive and looks and draws inspiration very often from nature and from around it. Nature and artifice often meet or collide in my projects. I like to create tension between shapes or between materials. I'm always looking for a design that lasts long. My objects want to control the space once inserted and become the protagonists. The materials I use often characterize my designs and enhance their nature.
CHALLENGE: The obstacles were many, first the methodology of realization; Half mechanical and half crafts, the second the cost of realization and time. We have put on the market an object for a sophisticated consumer who loves to get involved with unique pieces made of natural materials and who appreciates the high craftsmanship value
