| DESIGN NAME: Beetle PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bluetooth earphones and speaker at once INSPIRATION: I was inspired by beetles to design features of the device. I use the characteristics and appearances of the beetle as design languages. Texture, Polish, Structure for earphones and so on.When earphones are inserted to the body (speaker and charger), it seems that beetles are hanging on the tree. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Beetle is the all in one design of the bluetooth earphones and speaker. With Beetle, you can enjoy music wherever you're. When you go outside, you bring Beetle earphones from the speaker and you get them back to the speaker, to charge them and continue the music you're enjoying when you come back. Talk about the bluetooth earphones for outside activities first. Users can adjust the angle of the earphone for the most comfortable feeling. The mobile case provided can keep the Beetle earphones safe when they're not used outside. And you can use the bluetooth speaker indoor. Thanks to the modern shape of the speaker covered with fabric, it naturally seems to fit in any space, as an object. What makes Beetle different from other products is that users can charge the earphones and play music at the same time, by inserting the earphones to the speaker. (Detailed images and information are in the document I uploaded.) OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You can use the bluetooth earphones outside. Users can adjust the angle of the earphone for the most comfortable feeling. The mobile case provided can keep the Beetle earphones safe when they're not used outside. And you can use the bluetooth speaker indoor. Thanks to the modern shape of the speaker covered with fabric, it naturally seems to fit in any space, as an object. Users can charge the earphones and play music at the same time, by inserting the earphones to the speaker. One of the important points when you use both of them(earphones and the speaker) is Bluetooth service that Beetle provides to be connected with other devices. You can connect the earphones by only touching the button on the slender body. And If you insert the earphones that connected with the device, the bluetooth service is continued on the speaker. When Beetle is connected, you can control it with the device connected with Beetle. Beetle is not only the set of two different devices (earphones and speaker), but also the single object at the same time. Therefore, depending on the various needs of users, Beetle can propose new user-experiences and life style. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2017 and completed in August 2017. Reedited to upgrade the quality in February 2018. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: There were two main points to focus on when I designed Beetle. First of all, it was that Beetle should propose new user-experiences in daily life to people. According to various analytical statistics and columns for market trends, I recognized that people who enjoy musics anywhere love spending on various sound equipments. Then, What if user can enjoy two services (earphones and speaker) at once, by buying only one? Beetle not only provides users with music of high quality to do its best as a sound equipment, but also proposes new user-experiences that functions of earphones and speaker can be used at once. To achieve the point, wireless charging technology is the key component of Beetle. By inserting earphones to the speaker, charging and music play are executed at once. And the other point I considered in design process was the role of Beetle, as an object of indoor space. The time, electronic products should be more valuable than the product itself, has come. They should be more valuable and closer to the user, not just a functional stuff. So, by designing its form modern and simple, Beetle is able to exist as an object, a part of any space. In addition, the body covered with fabric layers gives warm and good feelings when users touch the product. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The earphones - 55mm x 20mm x 24.5 mm. The speaker - 85mm x 200mm. TAGS: Bluetooth, wireless earphones, earphones, bluetooth speaker, all in one design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The motif of my design began with my own experience. I usually enjoy listening to musics wherever I am. I listened to musics at outside with earphones, and at inside with the bluetooth speaker. It's expensive for me (as a student) to buy both earphones and speakers. And the process that I had to change the devices all the time , depending on where I was, made me think about the new way. I thought It would be new and creative experience if we could keep the wireless earphones, I used outside, to the speaker that I use at home. Beetle is the result of the imagination for new experiences. CHALLENGE: I spent lots of time to see if it was a technically possible design. To make sure the possibility, I had a meeting with students studying engineering and contacted with engineers working in companies. I asked them for lots of advice and they technically helped me a lot. It was interesting and beneficial to meet experts in other fields all the time. Although this made me more busy and hard to carry on the process without a hitch, it was so helpful for me to meet experts and get advices from them when working on the design project.
