RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research started after seeing the resemblance of the bucket bags. The aim was to design a unique shaped bucket bag by using different materials. Merveau bags are inspired by architecture and art works. Because of Merve's architectural background, she makes small-scale paper models for each design. After deciding the materials and colors the sample stage begins. Each prototype is made by craftsmen at atelier.
CHALLENGE: One of the main challenges was to make a sculpture like body. Because of the mesh sides and geometric shapes, it was a challenge to create the final form. To give transparency to sides, material choice was also a challenge. First the idea was to use titanium mesh to sides. After making the prototypes we realised that, because of the thinness of the titanium mesh, it was unable to have the straight shape at the sides. Using fabric mesh was the final and successful solution.
