| DESIGN NAME: To You PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring of honour INSPIRATION: We very often spotlight the masterpiece and meanwhile let the appreciation of those nobodies slip, just as we adore the beauty and glory of celebrities at the same time overlook the tremendous aids of nobodies behind the screen. Here, I seek to redefine the role of nobody, a worker or a photo negative, sacrificing their voice for the completion of a masterpiece. Metal and electronic materials are manipulated into a whole, presenting the notion as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I tried to re-examine the value of the precious through the electronic materials that were available almost everywhere around us but were unnoticed or given little attention. A creation of an electronic component demands experiments and calculations with a long and complicated process. Therefore, I try to express those efforts on electronic components as a wearable piece on our body in the form of a jewel. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You could pull up the upper part (electronic components) to replace different electronic components, just like LEGO. You could choose your own style or customized the size you want. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2007 in Taipei and finished in January 2008 in New Taipei, and was exhibited in Gold Museum in March 2010. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I use soft solder to soldering all the electronic components, and cutting, folding, soldering, polishing sterling silver, and setting electronic components just like setting diamonds. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 11 mm x 25 mm x 35 mm TAGS: Ring, Jewelry, Electronic components, Silver, Handmade, Contemporary jewelry, design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A computer can function properly based on perfect software by laborious programmers and on tiny-little electronic components attached precisely to the mobo. A mansion won’t be built successfully without the performance of the blueprint made by an intellectual architect and then the execution of the blueprint realized by sweaty construction laborers. A government of a nation requires a wise head as well as the effective cooperation between many other administrations. A great masterpiece always springs from assiduities devoted by many nobodies. We very often spotlight the masterpiece and meanwhile let the appreciation of those nobodies slip, just as we adore the beauty and glory of celebrities or Hollywood stars and at the same time overlook the tremendous aids of nobodies behind the screen. Here, I seek to redefine the role of nobody, a worker, a socket or a photo negative, sacrificing their voice for the completion of a masterpiece. CHALLENGE: Self-doubt was the first challenge happened to me, I was afraid of the electronic components was not the right choice, and people will call into questions about them. The other challenge is how I combine the electronic components to make them look not so cheap as they are. I need to think about the color, size and arrange the materials in sequence for soldering together.
