DESIGN NAME: Petra
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Auxiliary Table
INSPIRATION: Inspiration comes from the beauty of natural marble, as a natural material no pieces of marble are alike. Therefore each Petra table has it's unique design featuring the material's natural veins. To complement such a noble material I used metal in copper or brass coating.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Auxiliary table with recessed structure to be used beside or in front of seating/sofa. The Petra table uses marble on the circular top and on the counterweight at the base, combining the aesthetic beauty and mass character of the material. Both parts are connected by a lasercut steel structure that contours the base and supports the table top. Available in Carrara white marble and brass, Guatemala green marble and copper and with Nero marble and colour-keyed epoxy coating.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1-steel sheet is lasercut 2-pre-polishment 3-folding 4- final polishment 5-brass or copper galvanized coating 6-clear coat antirust coating 7-marble insert placed 8 top placed
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in november 2015 in Sao Paulo and finished in may 2016 in Sao Paulo and was exhibited in High Design Fair in august 2016.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: research consisted in analysing different marble types and their mass. The aim was to use both mass and aesthetic characteristics of the material. Further research consisted in finding a suitable material for the structure. The one that offered most precision and variety of finishes was lasercut steel sheet.
CHALLENGE: conciliating different materials and finishes and achieving a original aesthetic result.
