DESIGN NAME: Eclips
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hanging Lamp
INSPIRATION: The use of a known method such as the hair clip applied to a curtain is the formal summary of this radiant circle which naturally brought me to the idea of an eclipse. The idea of a light fixture on a curtain is innovative because it gives something new to an environment that is somehow already well known and potentially opens up new space for exploration in the field of interior design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Eclips is the first plugIN lamp for curtains and texture supports. Its main feature is to work as a clip, to transform our curtains in lighting systems of ambient light alternative to other lamp models. The lighting is done by two dimmable RGB led strips. The led system allows the device to function without producing heat. Each curtain could become a support for one or more devices, creating interesting light effects taking into consideration the shade of the fabric it is attached to.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lamp can be dimmed.
It can also be assembled with other lamps to create different furnishing solutions for the home or business with a greater or lesser visibility of the composition. The app that controls is can control every aspect of lighting, such as intensity, colour, power.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Febrary 2016 and was completed in June 2016 in Teramo.
It won the silver medal at EPDA 2017 in the category of Illumination and Illuminated home decor.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I wanted to focus on the user experience and try to combine a functional tool and an image archetype in order to produce an innovative object that guarantees flexibility and functionality, while keeping that familiarity of the object we're used to seeing. By using these familiar images, creating a hybrid of parallel world and languages, we decontextualize these forms and give them new meaning and make our lives better. The object fulfills its task by being innovative, not technological.
CHALLENGE: Lamps and lighting is a theme that brings nothing new to the table. Few lights however have a structural rapport with fabric, outside of lampshades that are more byproduct than integral part.
This rapport is the revolution of Eclips, since it is supported by the fabric and not viceversa. This thought is an integral part of my research which aims to make the ordinary extraordinary and giving objects new sense, new functions to make reality more rich intelligent and stimulating.
