| DESIGN NAME: SLant PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bookcase INSPIRATION: The design of the slant bookcase was inspired by the storage of books in an oblique position. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The slant bookcase can be used as a single or multiple units by bringing together side by side a number of the bookcases. The slant bookcase can be assembled in a practical manner without using any connection elements by inserting the notched parts of the shelves into the notched parts of an oblique carrier pieces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The slant bookcase has sufficient storage capacity as well as esthetic appearance. The slant bookcase can be used in homes and offices. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project/design was started in March 2017 in Ankara, Turkey. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The melamine coated Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) material, which is possible to be reused and whose wastes are almost completely recyclable, was preferred in the production of the slant bookcase. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 170 cm (w) x 30 cm (d) x 185 cm (h). The pieces of the slant bookcase for total of 300 each slant bookcase boxes with a maximum weight of 45 kg each can be placed and transported in a 20 cubic foot container. TAGS: Bookshelf, Bookcase, Shelf, Notched insertion, Joint RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The bookcase provides for the books oblique, due to an oblique carrier side pieces, which form the basis of the design. Visual and esthetic differences can be achieved by using different colors and materials in all parts of the bookcase. CHALLENGE: Thanks to the assembly feature of the slant bookcase, horizontal and oblique pieces can easily be transported in two boxes with the dimensions of 175 cm x 32 cm x 6.5 cm - 190 cm x 32 cm x 12 cm and can be mounted practically at the place of use. NAME: Slant Bookcase PROFILE: Kemal Yıldırım, the designer of the slant bookcase, is presently employed as a Professor at the Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey. Prof. Yıldırım has written over 90 national and international scientific articles in the field of Furniture and Interior Space Design. He won the “Unions of Exporters Grand Prize” with the design called AngledBOX in the Office Furniture Professional Category at the “Eighth National Furniture Design Competition” organized by the Unions of Exporters of Turkey on 10 April 2015. Furthermore, he won “Second Prize” with the design called Life Bed at the “Furniture Design Competition for Saving Lives in an Earthquake” that was opened within the scope of the Fifth International Kocaeli Earthquake Symposium held on 11 June 2015. In addition, he won 5 each “A Design Awards” with the designs titled AngledSHELF, V-Bookcase, MyBATH, HexBOX and FileBOX at the 2016-2017 A Design Awards, included among the most prestigious design competitions of the world organized in Italy. |
