DESIGN NAME: CrickIT
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Personal transport aid
INSPIRATION: CrikIt was designed with the idea that there is a need for a method of transportation that can assist us where conventional means cannot. The idea was to create an object, both pleasing in aspect and functional in design to fulfill this need. The user for whom it was designed for is both the single individual and the professional. In creating CrickIT the form was purposely designed to optimize its every component and the choice of components is strictly related to Crickit's functionality.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: CrickIT is an electrical, alternative way of getting around, so we can go long distances without getting tired and it can transform to help us carry about our objects. It's specifically designed to operate in modern cities, where other means of locomotion could be less convenient due to natural barriers. It works well in historical centres because it can ignore natural road geometry difficulties and access limited traffic areas. It is the first vehicle to have an ischial driving posture.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: CrickIt has two forms: vehicle and transport mode. In vehicle mode, the user leans on the product, driving it by holding on the the handlebars and leaning to steer. In this mode, it can achieve a max. speed of 15 km/h. When in transport mode, the user drives it from the outside, placing the objects he or she desires to transport on CrickIT. This greatly reduces its potential speed, of 7 km/h, but transports up to 250kg. The entire product can be folded up and be stored in the trunk of a car.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: CrickIt was designed in 2015 in Teramo and has won the following design awards: Red Dot Award Design Concept in the category of Mobility; Gold Prize winner at the European Product design Award 2017 in sustainable living ,environmental preservation and urban sustainable design; Silver Prize winner at the European Product design Award 2017 in the category of transportation and alternative fuel vehicles.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In designing CrickIt the basis of the design was the most comfortable position the user would assume. An ergonomics study dictated everything from the position of the handlebars to the consistency of the base. As far as the materials chosen, preference was given to those that guarantee the lightest weight possible: carbon fibres, plastic and aluminum. The batteries chosen are the latest gel type to assure maximum range. A GPS tracking system is included for security and to aid in logistics use.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W 700mm x D 700mm x 1100mm
In particular:
folded 700mm x 700mm height 370 mm;
open 700mm x 700mm height 1100 mm;
It is equipped with position and RGB signal lights.
The last generation gel battery duration is around 2 hours.
The vehicle's peak speed is 15km/h, on average 8 to 10.
The transport's peak speed is 8km/h, on average 4 to 6.
The materials used for the shell are polycarbonate and carbon to provide strength and weight reduction.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I tried to focus on the user experience, starting from a movement which can be familiar ,as the action of skiing, and insert it into a alternative product,
thus exploring alternatives to known products and incorporating known gestures. The innovation here is in the driving system in both modes, and the flexibility of the product. My goal was to take an known object used for personal transport, and increase its functionality through the use of its form.
CHALLENGE: The challenge here was trying to combine something useful, compact, comfy and flexible. The problem was to come up with something different from a hoverboard, that would allow the user to move people AND things in order in increase flexibility. This was in order to give a concrete solution to mobility and accessibility problems and do it through an object not only useful for the personal user, but also for the business user.
