DESIGN NAME: Fashion Victim
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wearable Artwears
INSPIRATION: My concept comes from my personal experience, that I had big injury due to the excessive fashion works. My body is sick, but why couldn’t I stop working? Fashion overcame my health. And this situation is not only my story, it is a story for everyone who is in fashion field. So, fashion victim became my concept. As a fashion victim my body and mind change, almost like I am struggling with PTSD.I want to show the stress, anxiety and burden that I experienced while exploring a concept.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I think that creation comes from inside myself. I like to connect my experiences to my creative works and give a message to society. I focus on researching the personal aspects of art and the human experience of creativity through a psychology, because I believe that personal experience and human story are one of the most precious materials for creation and always can touch people. For creating my aesthetic philosophy, I research traditional aesthetics and analyze art trends and standards of beauty by age. I break and change the existing traditional beauty norms. I want ugly things to be beautiful, and in reverse, beautiful things to become ugly. Also, I want to change ordinary things to extraordinary, and in reverse, extraordinary things to ordinary.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: My collection is wearable art wears. The garments seem they are hard and uncomfortable to wear, but, what you see is different from how you feel. They are very emotional and comfortable. I have started this project to overcome my trauma as a fashion victim, and while doing this, I was victimized by my concept mentally and physically. Due to this hard and personal experience, my collection shows the way I feel about being a fashion victim and both the pain and joy it causes. And I wish when people see and wear my garments, I want give them a positive messages, to overcome their trauma or hardness,(if they have), like me.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This collection is made in New York. The concept development has started from 2015, by creating mini collection, and finalized into new, current collection in the mid of 2016. I had fashion presentation of this collection in New York and Asian countries like Seoul Korea, Shanghai China, and Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To express the silhouettes of the collection, I experimented with building exaggerated weight on shoulders, back and other parts of the body. However, as the key characteristic of the concept being partially viewed through a lens of a dream, the garments should not be heavy in paradox. I introduced sleepwear shapes and details. Also while collecting evidence to solve the case of the Fashion Victim, I came across a bra as another synonymous meaning of a burden. Although a light weight garment when worn throughout a whole day, it becomes heavy and leaves indentation marks on your body. Bra is also a symbol for certain norms and expectations of a female body and beauty standards in our society that we slave to. From here I took an idea of undergarments being built into the construction of outerwear that holds the entire garment together.
For fabrication, I made ugly things to be beautiful, and in reverse, beautiful things become ugly. The most important fabrication in my collection is the wrinkled and melted nylon with padding inside.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Garments which fit on the body, they are Women size 4.
Except those, everything is oversize.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Fashion Victim
My concept idea comes from my personal experience that I went through while being a fashion student.
Incident Scene: time date/ place
I cut my finger and due to the excessive bleeding I fainted, and on my way to the floor I hit and cut my head, which was now also bleeding. Since the project was due next morning, I could not stop working on it; My classmates took me to the hospital, but after I was treated I got back to the studio and completed the entire project despite the trauma.
Case study: Investigation
There was a person injured and evidence of incident but who committed the crime? To retrace events I went back to the fashion studio and documented a setup of a crime scene. There were sharp scissors, pins, remnants of fabrics, threads and dismantled garments lying on the floor.
Victim:
After the accident I continued to have nightmares every night. I felt as I could not breathe because my heart would beat so fast, my mind would go blank and I began to feel anxiety while working in the fashion studio.
Case conclusion:
I wanted to express the stress, anxiety and burden that I experienced from the incident while working on a fashion project and my recurring nightmare. My aim was to show not only the present but also the dream, the place where I cannot control. It also represents a larger picture of the entire fashion’s state of being as a slave and victim of fashion.

CHALLENGE: 1. Design Part- I had hard time in visualization. I only had the word, Fashion Victim, and did not know where to start the process. In the beginning, I only focused on my symptoms, and tried to visualize it. But at the end, my experience and social trend combined together and reflected on to my collection.
2. Social Perspective- In my collection, the undergarment, bra, is used as the symbol of women body. Moreover, undergarment becomes outwear. Socially, women always hide themselves, hesitate to reveal their undergarment, and body. I wanted to break those social boundaries between men and women.
3. Production- For the first original collection, I made everything by my own. When I get wholesale orders, I had to find factories to produce in NY and Seoul. In both countries, I struggled so much to persuade them to produce my collection in factories, they hesitate to make them because they are hard to make fast, and more about artisanal and crafted works.
4. Persuading people's traditional idea/opinion/eyes was the hardest part. I thought I have to break boundaries between fashion and art, and change social norms which already have been set in society.
