PRIMARY FUNCTION: Air Purification Panel
INSPIRATION: Morteza is the founder of PurCity and the one behind the idea.
He has born and raised in a city (Tehran, Iran) that has one of the highest air pollution rates in the world. During his childhood, he has lost one of his best friends due to the lung cancer exposed by air pollution, which significantly affected him.
Thus, he has always had the ambition to find solutions for this problem and had several different ideas that led him to startup PurCity.
Air pollution is a serious worldwide issue that taking about 8 million life every year, which is more than a war.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: GapS is a multifunctional construction panel that smartly designed to absorb large amount of pollutions e.g. NOx, SOx, VOC etc. GapS will be installed on the buildings as an exterior façade & naturally vacuums the pollution and purify it while adding extra thermal and acoustic insulation on the building and harvests rain water.
Feature: Smart Maintenance, extra Acoustic & Thermal Insulation, LEGO type installation, FIRE retardant, 100% RECYCLABLE and durable.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There are always free spaces between building facade and walls, where GapS panels will be placed and the polluted air around the building will be vacuumed by natural ventilation i.e. wind, air density and height of the building. GapS’ absorption process is a NANO based chemical reaction and the more pollution interacts with it, the more absorption will occur. Thanks to GapS’ smart turbulency design, which produces a significant interaction with pollution thus 3 to 4 times more absorption.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project has started about March 2016 and funded by Climate-KIC Greenhouse funding program on December 2016; we are a Go Grow Accelerator program from Copenhagen Business School located in Denmark.
The project is backed and approved by Denmark's Technical University.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We have finalized the product design modifications and localized the production line. Product's material will be cement and mixed some other materials to strengthen the product as well as make it lighter. Finally, two thin layers of improved nonomaterials materials will be coated on its surface like painting. Now, we are building an industrial park using this technology with a Chinese partner in Shanghai, China with the aim of purifying air and waste water control.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to investigate the project, we have done an enormous research using online records, university databases and receiving several professional customer feedbacks. We are offering improved & finished products whereas our indirect competitors (Italicementi, CrystalActive etc.) are only offering raw materials of the product, which makes it hard, time consuming for customers with an elevated cost of production.
CHALLENGE: In the beginning the biggest challenge was to figure out the right approach for the main idea. The first approach was/is brilliant and highly efficient. However, it was extremely hard and expensive to implement. After six months of studying, we came up with GapS’ solution and then the main challenge was to design an efficient multifunctional product that can work the best and offers several great features and still as reliable as it is now.
