| DESIGN NAME: CoZee Bedside Crib PRIMARY FUNCTION: Co sleeping baby cot INSPIRATION: The inspiration behind the CoZee Bedside Crib came from our 30 years experience in this nursery industry, and the recognition of a gap in the market for a beautifully designed co-sleeping crib, that can double as a travel crib. Our other goal in this project was to design a product that looked like a piece of funiture that a customer would be proud to put in their bedroom, rather than a piece of "equipment" UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The CoZee Bedside crib has been designed to help you develop that special bond with your little one and can also be used as a standalone crib. Its innovative 30 second open and fold mechanism also allows you to use the crib on the move, making the CoZee your babys home away from home. Features. The CoZee can be used for co sleeping or as a stand alone crib Innovative 30 second open and fold mechanism Handy storage shelf Breathable mesh window Travel bag included Removable, washable fabric lining OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The crib can be open and closed in just 30 seconds. To open, the legs fold outwards until the crib is in a standing position. Then, the storage shelf can be slotted into all 4 legs, to provide stability but also a handy storage option. The crib can be adjusted to fit any bed, by squeezing both handles on either side of the crib. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2016 in London, and launched in March 2017 in the UK and other export markets. The product has also been shown in 2 international trade fairs, in Germany and Hong Kong, with fantastic reception in both. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We explored multiple avenues for the crib design on CAD, before selecting the best functional option. Once we produced our first tooled sample of the product, minor tweaks were made to the design to ensure the product would be as easy as possible for the consumer to use. We also explored different methods of applying a wood effect to an aluminium frame. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Weight 10kg Assembled Dimensions (W x D x H) 92 x 56 x 69/84 cm Folded Dimensions (W x D x H) 92 x 56 x 12 cm Box Dimensions (W x D x H) 95.3 x 57.2 x 14.6 cm Folded Cube 0.062 m3 Mattress Size 80.5 x 51 cm The crib is tested to both EN1130 and ASTM standards. TAGS: Crib, CoZee, Bedside, Co-Sleep, Cot, Baby, Nursery, Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The market for co-sleeping cribs was first studied and analysed, with two major brands dominating the UK market, both offering something quite different. However, both cribs could not be used as a travel crib easily, with over 10-15 minutes time required to assemble and disassemble. We decided to focus on this method of opening and closing the crib, and managed to eventually get it down to under 30 seconds. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to ensure the safety of the product. At Tutti Bambini, safety is our number one priority, and we spent a long time focusing on this to ensure all outcomes were covered, and all risks were assessed.
