| DESIGN NAME: Happy Day PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shoehorn INSPIRATION: The history of the shoehorn is several hundred years old, and the product has always stayed the same. I wanted to recreate the classic everyday product in a fun yet simplistic way. The Happy Day pair looks like a pair of shoebases, but are actually shoehorns. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Happy Day is a fresh take on the traditional shoehorn. The design is very simple, it consists of only a piece of recycled leather cut in the shape of a footprint. The coated surface is sleek and flexible enough to make a foot slip in a shoe effortlessly. Thanks to its thin and small size the shoehorn fits in any pocket, case or bag and is easy to keep with you at all times. Happy Day comes in a pair with one piece for right foot and one for left foot. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: One side of the shoehorn is coated and sleek, which helps the foot slip in a shoe easily. The other side has a rougher surface for gripping. The flexible material adapts to the shape of the foot and is therefore comfortable to use. It suits different sizes of feet and shoes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2017, and the final product was finished at the end of March, 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Happy Day is made of recycled leather. One side of the material is coated and sleek, which helps the foot slip in a shoe. The other side has a rougher surface for gripping. The shoehorns are available in several colors, from which the user can choose their favorite combination. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 148 mm x 66 mm x 1 mm TAGS: shoehorn, recycled leather, shoe horn, simple, minimalistic RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was done in form of prototypes and testing to find the best shape for this product. CHALLENGE: The most important quality of this product is that it is practical and convenient. The challenging part was to bring something traditional, something new and something fun into the design.
