DESIGN NAME: Dee
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant lamps
INSPIRATION: Misty morning just before the sun is breaking.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: DEE is two pendants sharing the same metal top, dimensioning and form-factor.
The objective has been to create one design-signature and at the same time be able to obtain 360 degree illumination and be able to have more direct light in specific places, such as over the dining table, kitchen table or any other table.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The objective has been to create one design-signature and at the same time be able to obtain 360 degree illumination and be able to have more direct light in specific places, such as over the dining table, kitchen table or other tables.
The DEE glass version is designed to be the more modern version of the two with the acided part of the glass only being in the bottom part, to obtain a kind of flow-feeling, when the pendant is hung in a room.
We designed it to be bold yet classic, and almost expressing mist caught in the bottom of a glass bowl.
The DEE Metal is designed to be the more contemporary version of the two. A classic metal shade is distributing the light down and an opalized diffuser is making sure the light is soft and comfortable.
The DEE metal version to have a certain but of course attitude to it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Designed in Denmark 2014-2015
It was exhibited in Light & Building, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Euroluce Milan and more.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research has first and foremost been in regards to light transmission through sanded glass and the opalized cover. It has been our objective to find the exact right amount of sanding to obtain this "when the sun is breaking through mist" effect for the glass version, and the "warm sun" effect for the opalized cover (for the metal version). These two effects has been important for us, since we would like to "tell that story"in the products, without telling it in words. We are of course aware that no one will get this story, but we stay convinced that the two pendants in that way supports each other in the same setting.
CHALLENGE: Challenge has been to create the recognizable form factor for both Dee versions to be able to use both versions in the same scenery, but with two different illuminations.
The other main challenge was to design both lamps so there would be no visible screws or brackets.
