| DESIGN NAME: iKlips Wizard PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lightning to USB-A microSD Card Reader INSPIRATION: Making quality crafted elements that expand, enhance, and accent our digital lives is at our core. From concept to creation we maintain focus on our increasingly mobile lives. Our tactile and articulated designs are only realized upon delivery. We use today’s standards as a base to take off from and build a better future. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: iKlips Wizard is a microSD card reader. It can connect to an iOS device via lightning connector and a computer via USB-A port to transfer data and expand storage capacity. It is compatible with the iKlips app for users to backup, view and manage files intuitively. To prevent it from getting lost, the unique magnetic cap design allows users to stick it to nearby metals. Moreover, the magnetic cap can be used as a stand for iPhone when paired with a metal plate on the back of the phone. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: With the extended Lightning connector and overall design you can easily use iKlips Wizard with any rugged iPhone or iPad case, including an OtterBox. File management comes naturally through using it as an external PC drive or with the intuitive iKlips app. Stick iKlips Wizard on any magnetic surface for safe and memorable keeping around your office. Combine it with the ADAM plate to keep notes or create a stand for your device. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2016 and finished in March 2017 in Taipei. Available in five magical colors, iKlips Wizard has a unique and flexible design with a magnetic cap and ADAM plate for versatile storage on the go. Certification: CE/FCC/BSMI/C-tick/W TAGS: iOS, memory, Lightning, USB, reader, design, Apple, microSD RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Since the iOS handheld device has limited internal capacity, users need an additional storage solution without internet access. The goal is to develop a portable smart card reader for iPhone, iPad and iPod users. With a microSD card, it can expand storage capacity when the internal storage of iOS devices is run out. It also supports drone and action camera users to manage pictures and videos of microSD card via iOS devices. CHALLENGE: There are various card readers in the market. It is challenging to design an attractive and functional card reader to stand out in the crowded market. Through the design methodology, we find out the breakthrough in technique and design.
