DESIGN NAME: Urban Oasis
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential apartment
INSPIRATION: The Urban Oasis project design inspiration appears from the beautiful mountain and river view from the apartment window. The existing condition of this dwelling space was dark and segregated from outside nature. The newly installed large framed windows in the apartment provides glassful natural light and view into the space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is an urban oasis, a sanctuary place where we hope to balance the couple’s busy lives in Taipei. The beautiful mountains surrounds the apartment has inspired us to design a fluid space and bring the natural landscape into the interior. Without moving a single partition, the original 3-room layout of the 22-year old building is kept, with additional storage space and walk-in closet. To utilize every corner, left over spaces in kid’s bedrooms have turned into study and reading zone.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The multi functional bench by the window at living space also frame the beautiful outside view from the apartment. The smooth curvature is applied to make this bench ergonomically comfortable for the user to sit in different ways.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Urban Oasis project is our continuous research of furniture integrated interior space design. Not place furniture on the site, but to incorporate built in furniture to emphasize the beauty of space.
