DESIGN NAME: 15°
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interaction Lamp
INSPIRATION: My inspiration has come from asymmetry. The asymmetry is not just defined by its physical presence, Therefore the essence of asymmetry could be super balanced. The super balance form also creates asymmetry. It is the condensation of stories of the encounter with the place.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Playing with people's inherent desire for order and balance are the type of human condition that 15 degree is trying to explore. The form moves away from a two dimensional graphic to a more sculptural, and more pleasing form.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Turn No: Simply grab the "fin" of the lamp shade, push away from you. The magnet and rail that inside the switch structure will automatically attract the connection, and closed loop circuit.
Turn Off: Simply grab the "fin" of the lamp shade, pull toward you.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in December 2015 in Detroit and finished in March 2016, and was exhibition in Cranbrook Academy of Art, degree show

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Form Study. I consider this process as interactive and present my design practice with this idea. During my form experiment, I mainly utilized essential forms and function to realize the communication between the users and products. I believe that product function and form language will help me define the semantic meaning of product and gain a better understanding of the human mental world.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part is trying how to make the form as simple as possible but at meantime meet the people's inherent desire for order and balance.
