| DESIGN NAME: Keshavrao Bhosle Natyagruh PRIMARY FUNCTION: Drama Theatre INSPIRATION: To give the heritage precinct a previous glory while adopting new technology in service like light, sound, acoustics, air conditioning and stage drapery in the living heritage structure UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To give the heritage precinct a previous glory while adopting new technology in service like light, sound, acoustics, air conditioning and stage drapery in the living heritage structure OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By doing structural audit and adopting the solutions recommended by the consultant the heritage campus is been retrofitted, strengthen and restored for another 100 years. This heritage Auditorium has been given essence of museum by painting a sketch of city, painting a old classical drama performance, which conveys the message to the new generation of the history. Achieved Good indoor environmental quality , and improvised the ambiance by warm lights. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: project started in 2013 and was completed in 2015 march in kolhapur |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hand cut stone masonry in line mortars, wooden trusses repaired by applying anti termite coating, anti corrosive treatments to structure SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Area: 100years old load bearing structure, uncoursed rubble masonry with lime mortar, cast iron trusses, burnt tile roof of local mud TAGS: Palace theater, Sangitnatya, Conservation, Retrofitting, Reuse RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Structural audit was carried out with necessary following tests like Moisture test of space under stage (well),Corrosion test, Anti termite test for old wooden trusses ,Leakages from manglore tile roof were stopped as well Strengthening of structures was done from foundation to roof top. As we found the structure was suffocating with various encroachments. So the all R.C.C encroachments were removed, plumbing pipes, ac ducting etc Strengthening of old wooden trusses and cast iron trusses , metal sheets, masonry, door/ windows Conservation and Retrofitting Change in balcony section Well under stage conserved Reused balcony planks for stage zero amplification Additional facilities: Cinema & av presentation screen is provided for multiple activities , FOH facility VRF system of minimum ducting Provided L.E.D lighting Sound system of BOSE Natyagruha is made available to perform sangeetnatya ,a vanishing art performance ,provided by three curtain screens to divide stage into different sizes. CHALLENGE: The Heritage structure was suffocating and breathless with poor indoor air quality Critically ill and severely damaged Conservation factor was not considered Legacy of palace theater was lost .
