DESIGN NAME: Pulse Portal
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installation
INSPIRATION: The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that to observe a subatomic object is to affect its behavior. My sculpture aims to instill wonder by allowing the viewer to discover a micro phenomenon in the macro world. I use space-age materials and mathematical truths to create forms that reference imagined alien structures.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pulse Portal is a functional, 20 foot archway that welcomes viewers to pass through a gate of iridescent light on a journey into tomorrow. The dichroic glass changes color based on the viewers position in space. The mere act of walking around the art creates a unique experience.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Participants could change the color of the sculpture by walking around it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This Archway was exhibited at Black Rock City, San Fransisco, and Art Basil in 2016
