| DESIGN NAME: Aarohi Model School PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primary School INSPIRATION: Schools unlike modern buildings like offices, factories & airports are a form of traditional building like temples, mosques & palaces. Historically, schools were the centre of the community & first schools was a guru under a pipal tree. Thus education institutions were always in close proximity of nature. Thus, modern schools should be a perfect hybrid between traditional design sensibilities & modern requirements. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is a module designed for various site across the backward districts of the Haryana state. Instead of a single courtyard of monumental scale smaller courtyards of more human scale. Circulation on the ground & first floors are varied to allow for creation of various vistas and creating an overall well choreographed path through the building. . Making the built up between the courtyards on the ground floor amorphous allows for perfect interlinking of courtyards. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is a module designed for various sites across the state of Haryana, India. Different sites have different starting and completion duration. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Architecture, Building and Structure Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It was a Low cost project with load bearing brick structure. The overall form was designed keeping in mind the Lack of skilled labor in these districts. This project is built at a cost of less than Rs 900 per sq.ft . SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: Institution, Public spaces, transcending spaces, redifining courtyards, contemporary architecture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: Sustainability is an imperative part of building. Especially in the given conditions of lack of electrical power & worsening of the conditions in extreme of the summer months. Creating a number of multipurpose thermally comfortable spaces was one of the main aims of the design.
