DESIGN NAME: Cuboctahedron 7 Position Planter
PRIMARY FUNCTION: 7 Position Planter
INSPIRATION: For the Cuboctahedron Planter we wanted to transform an ordinary object into an artistic yet functional piece of design. We manipulated a polyhedron to give it a complex estructure, all its parts assemblies are accurately manufactured so that it doesn't need any adhesive.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This wooden cuboctahedron-shaped planter is developed with the technique of stereotomy which gives its composition different visual effects important for the decoration of any interior space. It's geometry allows it to be placed in 7 different positions each of which changes the view of the object.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This planter is really easy to use, you can achieve different position by placing it on its different angles.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2016 in Mexico City, Mexico. It took several trials for it to reach its final form which is currently being produced.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials used for the Cuboctahedron Planter are: A cylindrical glass vase that goes inside the planter and MDF with double faced natural wood veneer (Walnut, Okume and Sapelle).
The production is made with laser cut off 16 pieces which are later assembled without the need of any adhesive or hardware.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Material: 3mm MDF doubled faced natural wood veneer
Dimensions: 19cm (H) x 19cm (D) x 19cm (W)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For the Cuboctahedron Planter we used stereotomy with a different turn that allowed us to create a perforated volume fully assembled. We also used mathematical calculations in other to get a proportional geometry capable to stand steadily on any of its angles.
CHALLENGE: The challenge with this project was achieving the perfect assembly between the different parts of the planter. Also the solving of the puzzle its pieces create.
