DESIGN NAME: Plié
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: Realized in a minimalist and totally assumed spirit, the "Plié" lamp gives the beautiful to the matter. Jean Lagard, a trained boilermaker, knows how to shape metal with apparent simplicity.
The rigorously drawn geometry reveals a soft and warm light that reveals the clean lines of the metal.
The "Plié" lamp, thanks to the two folds which compose it, plays with the perspectives and the light. The main idea was to highlight a simple sheet of metal. After a lot of research and prototypes, I came to a final design. I realized in my exploration that the light of a lamp could have several interpretations.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The "Plié" lamp.
Its minimalist lines make us forget the technical constraints that motivated the work of the designer.
Two cold folds on a sheet of metal form this lamp in all simplicity. Its design and the various prototypes realized by the designer have made it possible to refine the proportions in order to allow him to adopt multiple positions.
The "Plié" lamp emits light that can be used directly or indirectly. Depending on the position, the "Plié" lamp will serve as a desk lamp as well as ambient lighting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Table lamp / Task Light.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2014 in Montréal (Canada) and finished in Décember 2016 in Toulouse (France), and was exhibited in "Les Puces" of Saint-Ouen, nearly Paris in April 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In all workshops that work metal have created metal strips that often end up recycling. Since Jean Lagard has been an boilermaker, he try to value these falls to find them useful. After years of upcycling, it was only by creating the "Plié" lamp that he found the most beautiful way to enhance these strips of metal.
CHALLENGE: The technically toughest part is the realization of the two folds.
The hardest part of design to was finding the precise angle of folding.
