| DESIGN NAME: Chinte ottoman PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional sectional ottoman INSPIRATION: Ottomans are upholstered furniture used as stool, coffee table etc to make people comfortable. Refered to its root, these furniture has been named after Ottoman Empire. On the other hand, cintemani motif which consists of three main circles and circles drawn within has a profound meaning in Ottoman culture and it is a well-known and widely used cultural figure. This pattern is considered as the symbol of strength, power and sovereignty. I'd like to combine and synthesize the motif and ottoman in one unique and modern design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Chinte ottoman has not just been designed for home use, but also for wide areas such as museums, atriums, lobbies. It can be produced in countless different colour combinations, from many different materials and in different sizes according to place it will be used, if desired. Due to its sectional mechanism, it can be used seperately if needed. As well as it provides the owner put-your-feet-up comfort, chinte can also be used as extra seats for guests for home use. The innermost part made of wood or fabric provides storage space inside for magazines, books etc or scattered things around that should be quickly out of sight when needed. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Chinte is a upholstered ottoman used for home, corporate environments and wide spaces which enriches the places aesthetically. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: According to the area of usage, materials can differ. Materials like fabric, leather, felt, linen can be utilized for the outer circles, spots. The smallest namely innermost part is thought as marble for large ottomans which are used in wide areas such as lobbies and it can also be made of wood in smaller ottomans to eliminate the weight by home usage. The each three spots of the figure can be used seperately if desired. NAME: MURAT GEDIK PROFILE: Born in 1972 in Istanbul, Turkey, Murat Gedik studied Construction Painting. Since graduation, he has worked for several reputable architecture firms. He designs architectural futuristic concepts, high-rise buildings, future warships and automobiles as a freelance designer. One of his automobile designs was awarded 2nd place in category 'Ergonomy' in last year's car design contest held by Automotive Exporters Association, in Turkey. His architectural concept design project named ‘Xcept’ was published in a notable Turkish architecture magazine called ‘Tasarım’ in May 2008, 181th edition. He continues his designs in different fields both domestic and international. |
