| DESIGN NAME: Tulip Umbrella PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rain and sun protection INSPIRATION: The inspiration for our Tulip umbrellas arose from MDT’s desire to combine design with functionality. Similar to a flowering meadow every element radiates in its own character. Customized configurations and lighting give finishing touches. Apart from providing shade, the tulip form offers the possibility of easily harvesting rain water. As a latest invention MDT equips the umbrellas with Solar panels to produce energy for mobile charging stations, to e.g. charge mobile phones or electric bikes UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The remodeling of the existing parking lot in the small seaport town of Youghal quickly became an iconic visual symbol for the town. The 12 umbrellas that measure 6x6m cover the former parking lot and convert it into a meeting place capable of withstanding a wide range of weather conditions. Local residents have since lovingly nicknamed the area “Umbrella Square”. Nothing more to add to this urban architectural intervention?
