DESIGN NAME: Terrace Field
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Branding Tool
INSPIRATION: Taiki was inspired by the terrace field concept from her award winning project. He was also inspired by her ability to unite opposite elements such as light and shadow in her architecture. The primary colors of this identity is black and white, which is the complete opposite.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The brand identity and stationery for Ryoko Iwase, a spirited architect /designer based in Tokyo. The design adopts the same concept as her award winning project called "Dandanbatake (Terrence field)", which is to use a tiered platform structure and create a smooth landscape. All design systems have been designed with this "step" in mind.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The logo will be applied to a web site in the near future. This is a simple and minimal design, which will never become old, and will maintain timeless beauty.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2016 and completed in September 2016, in Tokyo.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This design required both Japanese and the alphabet, so Taiki applied a vertical composition, which shows the Japanese words at its most beauty. To maintain a good white-balance from the alphabet and the Japanese, he adjusted the weight and size of Japanese.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Constructed a minimal yet functional design system by creating one design format and applying it to the rest of the tools.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Taiki studied a couple hundred patterns that has a unique layout with the design concept: a counter, and sought of a perfect balance of subtle elegance within a dynamic design.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to find a good design using mixed typesetting of Japanese and the alphabet. Took the most time in the finalizing process.
