DESIGN NAME: Shanghai Land Asset Management
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Investment Office
INSPIRATION: Extension
To extend all mterial's life is my mission for thsi project, old metal panel, wooden flooring, bricks wall, carpet and ceiling tiles, all been reused and applied into this office.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project aims to re-use all existing or recycled materials within a tough budget and time frame. SREG is an investment office, but the client preferred to show the creativity by using old materials, more than typical formal investment office.
Most of the materials are old, or sourced from local market, due to the time frame and budget, we cannot use high-end products except the air conditioning system, client all using high-end system in order to produce less pollution.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To reuse old materials is not common in China market. First of all to convince client that 'old' doesnt mean cannot use. We have to give the materials a new life.
Such as the reception back panel, its from a old metal panel, we design "holes" and put 2 pieces combined together, collapsed the pattern so it creates a special illusion pattern. The results is stunning through the natural light from behind.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project started in February 2016 in Shanghai and finished in July 2016.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We did a lots of mock up and testing on the metal panel wall. Due to the hardest of the metal panel, its difficult to dig new holes on it, finally contractor find the machine and solve the problems. The outcome of the pattern looks great.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The wooden flooring are in different sizes, all about 150mm width by 900mm length. Ceiling and carpet tiles is 600 x 600mm
TAGS: Extension. Simple is best
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We went to local Shanghai materials market, choose wooden flooring and metal panel. Re-use the bricks taken down from other site, re-paint and touch up with white painting, applied it on most of the walls.
CHALLENGE: Find materials! which can be reused. worked together with contractor to do mock up (see documentation), its a long process to try the pattern on the metal panel.
