DESIGN NAME: Monte Timber Collection
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Door Handle
INSPIRATION: Timber is a fascinating material. Its organic beauty is apparent in its grain, colour and texture, with each piece unique in its characteristics. We have been using timber in a range of our entrance handles for years, its natural aesthetic creating a soft touch and giving a feeling of warmth to the entrance of any project. With a recent rise in the demands for architectural timber products from architects, we have begun looking at further ways to bring this natural material into our products.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Monte Timber Lever Collection consisted of Timber Quad, Timber Club and Timber Lanex. Timber Quad has sleek, square lines and confident appearance, the timber addition on the handle creates a modern feature to any doors. Timber Club has soft contours with bold lines to add a sophisticated look. Timber Lanex was inspired by the Bauhaus era, its timber hand piece blends the basic shape of a cylinder and cuboid to result in a decorative style.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By introducing the new Monte Timber Collection of levers, we have brought the organic characteristics inside the home, giving people the experience of embracing and connecting with nature at every touch.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The collection was established in Melbourne, Australia on 1st December 2015 and was exhibited at Icff New York in May 2016 and Icff Miami in October 2016. The Timber Quad lever has been selected as a runner-up winner of the first-ever Nycxdesign Awards by Icff and Interior Design Magazine in the hardware category. The Monte Timber Lever Collection has also won the 2016 Best of Year Award by Interior Design Magazine in the hardware category.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Monte Timber lever collection was the culmination of 4 years of on-going research and development. The aim was to design a beautiful timber lever range that met the needs of the time.
CHALLENGE: Our user feedback presented our main design challenge. How do we develop a small range of timber levers to suit any modern or contemporary interior setting? After many conceptual design iterations and a large number of hand-made and 3D printed prototypes we shortlisted four refined lever designs. The solution to our challenge? Warm and textured timber lever designs with clean lines, simple curvature, timeless silhouettes, refined proportions and the ability to be purchased in over 100 finish combinations so that you can personalise the finish to your liking.
