| DESIGN NAME: Octavo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Home Office Desk INSPIRATION: Growing populations in big cities causes decreasing living space for every person. To be able to use these minimum spaces with maximum efficiency we need to propose functional furnitures. Designing removable products is a clever way to contribute creating larger living environments, designing also foldable products is the most effective way to improve this objective. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Octavo is a home office concept designed to be able to function as soon as unboxed, without the need of any assembly process. As a solution for creating workspaces in small living environments, Octavo proposes a portable worksurface leaned on the wall. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product is assembled and packaged in production facility. The key point in usage scenario is to provide ease of use to customers. As soon as unboxed with a simple folding operation desk itself stands by leaning on a wall, creating a 90° worksurface. Elastic bumpers are placed where the product meets with floor and wall. Metal frame structure is designed to mount universal accessories such as lighting, pen holder, folder rack etc. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project is designed and prototyped in Konya/Turkey in 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Cold-formed sheet metal main frame is powder coated. Movable worsurface is offered with chipboard, plywood and mdf materials. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The content in the box does not require any kind of assembly operation. By a simple folding process thanks to clever details of Octavo, any wall is ready to transform into home office. 100 x 100 x 12 cm box dimensions ensures the standarts of EUR pallet 2, stacked with a maximum number of 10 boxes on each one. TAGS: Desk, Home Office Desk, Furniture, Foldable, Octavo RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In a products life cycle, it is important to solve different variations of problems concerning production, shipping, assembly and usage. However purchasing behaviours of users are directly effected by usage scenario. Absence of any assembly process and possiblity of changing the location of desk without need of any tools are the key factors that produce many reasons favoring among competitors. Reducing shipping costs, removing assembly costs and minimizing service costs results directly as a decrease which creates reasonable price strategies. From design to sales, Octavo offers feasible and flexible solutions. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to design a ready to use, removable and assembly free product to maximize efficiency in small living spaces and provide users alternative workspaces offering personalization.
