DESIGN NAME: Autopokets
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Buffing Kit
INSPIRATION: While detailing cars, it is common to place all buffing cloths over each of the detailing products. This frustrating practice, made me realize that every polish, wax, interior, trims, rims, tire products required more than one cloth. Inconspicuously, I gathered insights from other users who shared the same pain points. I visited stores internationally and researched, but I failed to find any existence of a product that could overcome this experience.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An auto buffing kit comprising slots, pockets and a hanger. Its primary function is to keep the cleaning cloths, sponges and chamois organized. The styling is clean with importance given to its calculated specifications and strong stitching technicalities emphasizes its quality. The choice of colour and materials is purely unaccidental to minimize environmental impact. The understated detailing addresses its individuality and its uniqueness.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Unfasten the silicone bands from the two hooks and this compact tri-fold kit will unfold. These hooks can also be used as a hanger. It is suitable to hang on car doors. Pockets and slots are used to organize the various cleaning cloths, sponges and chamois while detailing the car. It is convenient for storage.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The product was drafted on an art card. Curved corners were implemented throughout. It was crucial to keep it lightweight. Numerous sketches were developed to achieve an unconventional and functional closing system. All components were calculated and positioned to obtain maximum compartments. Every pocket is reinforced with self fabric binding. Closing system and hanger are reinforced with Eco leather tabs. Recycled nylon PET is used for outer shell, lining, webbing and are oeko-tex standard material.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Initial research was conducted with car enthusiasts to understand their habits as well as to learn how they manage and organize their materials while detailing their cars. These findings helped to identify the pain points and goals. The idea initiation advanced to design research, materials exploration and product components research. Comparative and competitive analysis, online searches conducted failed to show existence or similarities of such product. Numerous brick & mortar store visits were conducted in North America, Europe and South East Asia and validated its non existence which was key to the idea and its design.
CHALLENGE: In the research phase, one of the main challenges was being discreet about the functionality of the product. Gathering insights and not giving away the idea was another big challenge. In the design phase, apart from keeping the product compact, lightweight and functional, the challenge was exploring various locking mechanisms that would function as a closing system as well as a hook. The material used for this component was essential to avoid any damage on the car while hanging on it.
