DESIGN NAME: My Relative, Petofi
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Book
INSPIRATION: The book is divided between two families(the poet's mother's and father's branch). These are marked in the middle of the spreads with the page numbers. To show the relationships, family trees were drawn and placed on fold-out pages. The black and yellow color scheme is a reference to complementing the previous book (P.S. – Secrets of the barguzin skeleton) of the author, which was designed in black and blue and was about an expedition finding the poet's skeleton.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The book is about the living descendants of the great Hungarian poet, Sandor Petofi. It documents the vast amount of research the author did, ranging from interviews, archive photographs to detailed family trees.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Due to the book's small size, it's easy to handle and browse through it, either sitting in an armchair or reading it on a table. The fold-out pages fold only 2 times, so it doesn't make it hard to explore the detailed family trees.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2016 and finished in November 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The book was printed with offset printing with 2 Pantone colours on Cyklus offset paper.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 140 mm x Height 200 mm x Depth 20 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to create an inviting design within the limited budget. We worked with the printer and the editor to figure out a way how we would display the family trees. We ended up with a fold-out solution that is still machine produceable, to keep the costs low.
