PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sweets and Candy
INSPIRATION: The idea behind this series was not that complex - to make a simple yet interesting present for any occasion. This design provides more targeted experience for the customer. Everyone can find something they can relate to
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The 5 Principles is a series of candy jars with a twist. Each one is dedicated to different personality and character type (thinker, lover, lazy, muscle or just a cat person). Every pack design includes a simple character, people can relate to, and a series of short inspirational or funny quotes about him. Many quotes also have some pop-cultural references in them. It's simple in production and easy to expand as a series
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As there is a plastic cup at the centre of this packaging, it is quite stable for transportation and keeps the product fresh
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in October 2015, but the series itself is still growing every few months

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The idea was to make a simple everyday preset - meaning cheap in production. So it's made of a standard plastic container, corrugated cardboard wrapped around it and a wine paper sticker placed on top. So it's cheap and easy to produce yet it does not look cheap for the customer

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: 5 Principles as a project stems from the modern pop culture itself, mainly the internet pop culture and internet memes, so the first part was the research of the social media, making notes and narrowing down the information on personality types and trends. Then each personality type was assigned a certain type of a visual character - the Cat, the Muscle Man, the Lovers and so on, resulting in 8 different types at first, which grew to more than 15 since. As our research information itself originated from the most popular social trends we didn't need to test it that much afterwards
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this design project was to make the product cheap in production and very affordable to the customer, yet interesting visually, so it could be a cheap everyday present which doest look cheap. So the construction itself was based on the pre-made parts: plastic cup, corrugated cardboard sheet and a wine paper sticker. Pretty simple and cheap by themselves, but make an interesting object combined.
