| DESIGN NAME: Pininfarina Evoluzione PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric bicycle INSPIRATION: The Pininfarina E-voluzione model is a trendsetter and a new benchmark in the electric bicycle industry - says Brian Hoehl, Director of Diavelo and member of the design team. Our design team have aimed for a holistic design. Integration is the keyword. The motor and the battery blend very nicely together with the frame so it all appears to be one unit. This give a very sporty and appealing look. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An electric bike able to make a real evolution. In design. In technology. In performance. In comfort. e-Voluzione is the first electric bike born from the collaboration between Pininfarina and Diavelo, a member of the Accell Group. The partnership combines the long Pininfarina heritage in designing sporting cars and the vocation to research eco-friendly solutions with Diavelo, a member of the Accell Group, and its state-of-the-art technology in the bicycle sector. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This electric bicycle is very easy to operate. When you push the pedal it automatically transform into an electric assisted bicycle. On the display you can follow your speed and the autonomy of the battery. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: A total 12 month of development in the Pininfarina design office in Italy and in the Diavelo development office in Croatia. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Full carbon frame - fully integrated carbon motor bracket. Fully integrated handlebar and cockpit in Carbon. One of the worlds lightest fully integrated electric bikes with a high torque mid-motor. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 15,8 Kg / Length 145 cm x Hight 95 cm x width 50 cm / Package luxury cartonage / Technical property: Probably the lightest electric bicycle in the market. Motor integrated fully in the frame. Battery fully integrated in the frame. Control cockpit fully integrated into the frame. USB connector for external devices. Motor the bike by a personal app for iPhone. The end consumers was missing a holistic designed electric bike in the market. Normally electric bikes are not that beautiful. You will see external battery boxes. External motors and external cables. But in our Pininfarina case all is extremely well integrated. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was that there was no components available. Because of idea to integrate all items we had to make many of the parts from scratch. For instanse the battery and the display is totally new developments for this project only. Since the 1980s Pininfarina has also designed high-speed trains, buses, trams, rolling stocks, automated light rail cars, people movers, yachts, airplanes, and private jets. With the 1986 creation of Pininfarina Extra they have consulted on industrial design, interior design, architecture, and graphic design. |
