| DESIGN NAME: Sidexis 4 User Interface Design PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dental X-Ray Software INSPIRATION: Prior versions of Sidexis were mostly influenced by the development technology. Our plan from start to finish in aspects of usability engineering, design and development was to totally fulfill the users needs in any way. The software workflow suits the daily work of dentists. The interface is clean and easy to understand. The color, fonts and icons are designed to suit the requirement of focussing on the x-ray media and not distract in any way. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With Sidexis 4, we have accepted the challenge in redefining standards of dental X-Ray Software completely. A dentist’s actual procedures were the driving force for developing the intuitive user interface and efficient workflows – a new point of view in software development! The innovative design excites both dentists and patients and improves quality of diagnostics, treatment planning and consultation. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sidexis 4 was designed from sketch to code with the unique user groups daily work and special requirements in mind. It does not cover the normal workflows but also covers certain needs e. g. not distracting from the actual x-ray images or easing the handling with several and partly very old images. Pre- and post-release tests showed our success in these challenges, especially compared to older versions or competitor products. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Development done in Microsoft Visual Studio plus misc. tools, Design works done in Adobe creative Suite plus misc. tools SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Microsoft Windows PCs with these requirements: Windows 7 Pro SP1 or higher RAM: 4 GB or higher CPU: > 2GHz dual core processors GPU: Direct X 9 compatible with > 512 MB HDD: > 500 GB of free space (server side requirements might differ) TAGS: Sirona, Dentsply, Sidexis, Sidexis4, Dental, Dentists, X-Ray, XRay, Imaging, Software RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to suit the users needs many dentists and dental x-ray experts were interviewed and involved in prototyping and design processes. Pre-releases were tested in focus groups to keep the right direction from start to finish. CHALLENGE: Creating a new user interface for an outdated software in a unique, modern style but still suiting the special needs of the users was probably the hardest part.
