| DESIGN NAME: Flower Power PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vase INSPIRATION: Starting the project with a research about the existing interior smelling. Potpourri is available in many fragrances. That provides a lot of flexibility for the users. Next to Potpourri, candles are the most common items used for a great smelling. However, flowers have been valued for thousands of years. As a source of fragrance, a gift, a decoration or just a pick-me-up, flowers have a place in every part of our lives. Trying to add luxury experience by designing an interactive vase. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main idea of this project is to design a vase that has a magic to change the colors of the flowers. By using this vase, users can come up with numerous of different results which are depend on their experiments. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Adding few drops of food colors to the tubes can change the white Pivoine flower to the tube color. Moreover, having the same flower on two tube at the same time can get an amazing result by having three colors on the same flower as (yellow + red = orange...etc). In addition, colored flower can return to white again after changing the water. Users can mange the time of changing colors by the concentration of the color: the more color added to the water the faster it will appear on the flower. It is starting to appear from the first 15 min. Therefore, each user can choose color, flower, and enjoy the experience every time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Duration: 5 months The prototype has been made in Switzerland in different factories for each part of the product: anodized aluminum has been made on Niklaus SA in Geneva (http://www.niklaus-sa.com/home.html), corian has been made Tesaury Pierre & Fils (http://www.tesaury.ch), the acrylic box made on PLEXIGLAS GS (http://www.jauslin.com/default.php). PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The vase consists of three parts: 20mm thickness black Corian stone base with 100 engraved holes deep 100mm, 50 anodized aluminum tubes in seven rainbow colors with different heights (highest is 120mm), and a clear acrylic surrounding box. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total Vase Dimension: W200 mm x D200 mm x H250 mm Black Corian Dimensions: W18.8 x D18.8 x H20 mm Diameter of the engraved circles is 16.5 mm x deep 10 mm Anodized Aluminum Tubes: 16 mm diameter Acrylic box: W200 mm x D200 mm x H240 mm x Thickness 20 mm TAGS: Flower, Power, Vase, Magic, Color RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Many experiments and tests carried out through the research period by using different method and laboratory equipment. The steps are make an observation, ask a question, analyze the results, draw a conclusion, and communicate results. On these experiments, different colors had been used on so many kinds of natural and artificial flowers to see the reactions that come out of these experiments. Finally, the Flower Power Vase has used the best colors type with the best natural flower reacted. CHALLENGE: The research challenge was based on two factors colors and flowers. Finding colors friendly towards flower were easily founded; however, finding the best type of flowers that’s has great and fast reaction towards the colors was difficult. Many experiments had been done to find the best type of flower. NAME: Mea'ad - Design PROFILE: Mea’ad is the owner and principle Mea'ad-Design firm. Her Interior Design degree, which she completed at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, has given a strong foundation to her technical skills which she decided to develop further by working on a different scale, thus determining her choice of a Masters in Product Design. Designing involves a lot of long, complex and intricate processes and the application of basic practical skills, so it was crucial for her to pursue her advanced studies in a motivating and challenging environment. Mea’ad chose to join ECAL, a prominent school of design based in Lausanne, because their curriculum is based on projects that students undertake under the supervision of renowned designers and are presented to the Research & Development teams of distinctive brands in the luxury industry. Mea’ad is a member of Saudi Council of Engineers since 2007, and she has chosen to be the best interior designer 2011 and been awarded the International Design award from Los Angeles. Mea’ad's works and achievements have appeared in TVs, magazines and international newspapers. |
