DESIGN NAME: The Reflection Room
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Installation
INSPIRATION: The Cutaway created The Reflection Room, an inspiring and visually beautiful installation that allows consumers to immerse themselves in the Chinese New Year sentiments of Longevity, Prosperity and Happiness.
Inspired by the colour red, which symbolises good fortune, the Reflection Room is a spatial experience that is created entirely from red mirrors to create an infinite space. Inside, typography plays the role of connecting the audience to each of the Chinese New Year’s main values and prompts people to reflect on the year that has been and the year ahead.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Reflection Room is created entirely from red mirror perspex, from floor to ceiling, resulting with an internal space that appears to go on forever into the infinite. One steps inside and is confronted with an endless vision of what appears to be a galaxy of red shadows and lights. It is in this moment, the audience notice's the subtle message's of happiness, longevity and prosperity crafted in gold foil appearing from the walls - enticing them to reflect and consider their own future for 2017.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Reflection Room interacts with the public by creating a space where one can document their experience with their own smart phone. It is a personal space created to engage the public to reflect on the pass and future and embrace the Chinese values of happiness, prosperity and longevity.
The hashtag #thereflectionroom was also created to encourage the public to engage and share their Chinese New Year reflections.
