DESIGN NAME: Qipao Town
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Logo and VI
INSPIRATION: Though Chinese ancient town has experienced a long development, most cultural brands lacks a distinct personality. Thus, we created a unique logo to distinguish Qipao Town from other Chinese towns. The logo comprises the image of a Jiangnan lady wearing Cheongsam and the image of Suzhou-style architecture. We extracted the brushwork of Mr. Guanzhong WU to generate the logo in a modern and abstract manner. The gable roof appears like an eave and an oiled paper umbrella held by a Jiangnan lady.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Qipao Town is located in Shengjiaku at the main core area of Wujiang. Inheriting the thousand-year prosperity of Wujiang and enriched with Jiangnan customs, Qipao Town reforges the elegant and graceful Jiangnan lifestyle as well as re-presents the splendid silk culture, both characterized by Qipao and its derivative industries.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Cultural tourism concerning Chinese ancient town has experienced a long development. However, most cultural brands adopt common features, lacking a distinct personality. As a result, we created a unique logo to distinguish Qipao Town from other Chinese towns.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2016 in Shanghai and finished in May 2016 in Shanghai.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: By presenting the logo in a graphical mode, we also considered the concept of the silk culture and incorporated the intrinsic landscape characteristics of small towns in the South of the Yangtze River, so as to build Qipao Town into a characteristic base integrating industry, tourism and culture.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Considering most cultural brands about Chinese ancient town adopt common features, lacking a distinct personality. As a result, we created a unique logo to distinguish Qipao Town from other Chinese towns. The logo we designed comprises the image of a Jiangnan lady wearing Cheongsam and the image of Suzhou-style architecture. We extracted the brushwork of Mr. Guanzhong WU (a great master in painting and drawing) to generate the logo in a modern and abstract manner. The gable roof in our creation appears like both an eave and an oiled paper umbrella held by a Jiangnan lady, thus combining elements elegantly.
CHALLENGE: Cultural tourism concerning Chinese ancient town has experienced a long development, and many such brands have been built nationwide, especially in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. However, almost all such brands are with common features, lacking personality and differentiation. Thus it's challenge for us how to distinguish Qipao Town from other Chinese towns in the logo design.
