| DESIGN NAME: Clean Rim Paper Cup PRIMARY FUNCTION: Paper Cup INSPIRATION: Quite a few of the rims of paper cups will be touched when people only want to take one from a stack. Even worse, one rim can be touched serval times by different person. Thus the germs will transfer from people’s hands to the rim of cup and cause disease when people drink with the polluted cup. Except that getting water from the drinking fountains with paper cup is another pain point need to be solved. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To prevent the pollution from touching of the rim of paper cup, we designed a paper cup with an 11 degree sloping rim. The 11 degree incline leaves margin between two rims of two layered cups which enable people to take a cup easily without touching the rim of another. The design draws the public attention to care more about the Hygienic of disposable product. The incline also make an extension on the rim. With that extension, people can get water and pour water more conveniently. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. Choose the cup you want to take in the stack. 2. Hold the cup in the margin between, which is printed in green on the cup. 3. Take the cup out of the stack. 4.Use the 11 degree on the rim to get water from water dispenser more conveniently. 5.It is easy to pour water with the extension on the rim. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: We decided to design this project for distribution is in 2016. It is one of our series design ‘Big improvement with little change’. Another design from our studio of this series is 8 degree Battery which have won iF award-2014, Red-star award-2014, Red dot award-2015. Our studio is located in Beijing, so our design is aim to explain traditional chinese philosophical thoughts. This series design is from an old adage ‘Use 4 tael to influence 1000 catty’ which means ‘skillfully deflected the question’. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size:(length,width,h TAGS: paper cup, anti-pollution, touch-pollution, 11 degree rim, germ-free RESEARCH ABSTRACT: 1.Design method: Design with storyline. We use this method with some service design toolkits to make an inside of user’s need with timeline in study. After that we design a product which can tell story itself by meeting the users’ needs in every touch point in the journey map. For example, Clean-Rim paper cup can meet 4 needs at different touch point in its’ whole product life cycle, keep clean before use, easy to be taken nearly before use, get water from water dispenser more conveniently during use, pour water with the extension on the rim easily after use. 2.Design principle: Big improvement with little change. We have tried to make a Chinese design style for serval years. But most of them are still surface. And now, we are tring to broaden our mind from our ancient tradition and ancient sage. Our topic ‘Big improvement with little change’ is aim to explain traditional Chinese philosophical thoughts. This series design is from an old adage in Tai chi chuan-‘Use 4 tael to influence 1000 catty’ which means ‘skillfully deflected the question’. CHALLENGE: Clean-Rim paper cup is designed for creating a better experience during actual use. So although we have gotten good feedbacks when Usability testing, It is still hard to explain our design without usage scenario. So we use story board, before and after comparison to make our design easily experience with images and texts.
