DESIGN NAME: Rampage System
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Scale Model Building System
INSPIRATION: Rampage System was developed with the idea of creating a component-based model building system that could be assembled and re-assembled without glue and with invisible joining technology. It is also inspired by the recent growth in home fabrication and home 3D printer technology.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Rampage System is a component-based model building system that utilises 'OpenLOCK' clips to join components togeather. Each component is designed for perfect tessellation and compatibility. It allows the end user to build a wide variety of toy and game model structures. The components are delivered to the end-user as STL files to be printed on a home 3D printer allowing both variety and economical product delivery. The styles of the components are concurrent with 'fantasy fiction pop-culture'.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product is delivered as a digital STL file (3D printer ready file) to the customer which allows for a wide variety of component designs. It is also the most economical way to deliver the wide variety of plastic components into the niche model and game markets. There are currently over 300 optional components to choose from. Once the components are printed they are assembled by joining togeather using Printable Scenery's OpenLOCK clip
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Rampage System began development in January 2016 and was launched with a successful crowdfunding campaign via indieGOGO on October 22, 2016

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Rampage System STL files are produced using 3d modelling applications such as Blender and Z Brush. They are finalised in Netfab and test printed on a Prusa i3 Mk2 home 3d printer. Models are typically printed using PLA or ABS plastic filament.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Rampage System components are provided as STL files to be printed on a home 3D printer.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Rampage System is a result of the on-going research at Printable Scenery. The research and development required the testing of various locking and tessellation ideas. This included the testing the tensile strength of printed PLA and ABS. The design research included the research of fantasy fiction pop-culture.
CHALLENGE: Due to Rampage System being delivered as a digital file for home 3D printing the challenging part was to work with the lowest common denominator in the home 3D printer retail market. We overcame this by ensuring all our designs were tested on the lowest specification home 3D printer available as well as our medium and high-end home 3d printers.
