DESIGN NAME: Horizon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Footwear
INSPIRATION: All footwear is composed of one piece outsole, no one can even imagine that the whole outsole can be assembled by many independent pieces. These pieces are expected to be the best medium between people's feet and the earth so that people can really experience the different terrains through every single dots.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Each pair of Horizon has a sole created with 102 completely
independent and highly resilient-rebound ccilucell units, which are the most technologically advanced footwear compound and most nimble with the optimal outsole design. The black and white outsole design of this collection bears the legendary Ichimatsu Moyo pattern which historically was an elite fashion symbol in the golden age of Japanese history.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Horizon started with the imagination of the future scene,
where all the products can do adjustment automatically to fit what the user need and encounter with. It combined over a hundred of independent pieces to a sole which can overcome all different shape of terrains but still fit wearers' feet and make them feel comfort. In the same time, with different upper design, people can enjoy this kind of comfort in any occasions no matter it's formal or casual.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2015, finished in May 2016 in Taiwan, and was launched in CCILU SS17 Global conference in June 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The outsole is assembled with two different color ccilucell compound units through the innovative skive-on technology, and the formula make it really soft and flexible. It provides a multi-point supportive surface, which can offer the variable barefoot adoptions on different terrains. By the EVA rim, all compounds will form a stable foundation, which can go with different upper designs and materials.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: For Man's US 9: 11 mm x 29.5 mm x 10 mm for one foot. Main outsole material is "ccilucell" which is constituted by high performance EVA.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: CCILU development team were researching about how can it be done to combine isolated pieces to a whole out sole. Research showed that many shoes on the market are made with striation and indentation to simulate the multiple and independent support. But at the end, people still step on the whole out soles. After the test, normal outsole had limit regarding how it can be bent and twisted. So the skive-on technology were invented. Using a thin textile as a surface and glue up every pieces in one. By this method, the combined outsoles, which have better variation to adopt any movement when people wear them were made out.
CHALLENGE: Inspired by the Ichimatsu Moyo pattern, the Horizon was set up with an outsole in black and white like a check board. With single color, the independent pieces can be easily separated and glued up, but
when it comes to duplicate colors, it is very wasteful because it needs two whole pairs of outsoles and collect half of each to combine two colors together but the other half will be wasted and cost a lot to assemble them manually in mass production. So an equipment were designed to switch the pieces to the corresponding location and end up with two opposite pattern pairs of outsole and zero waste.
