DESIGN NAME: Nest Speaker
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Nesting Speaker
INSPIRATION: The idea is inspired by Matrioshka dolls. Users find it inconvenient that due to portable speakers not being used at home, they find themeselves searching for it for an amount of time; sometimes they would even forget to charge it. Since most users have a home speaker, they do not need to use the portable speaker. So what other way to solve those problem is to make use of modern technology as an idea and create a cohesive design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This home and portable speaker is good as one but better when combined. The home speaker acts as a nesting & charging port for the portable speaker. When both speakers are combined, it amplifies the overall sound. It is a way to take advantage of the speakers' full potential.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Nest uses modern technology such as wireless charging and pairing; intended to work with smart devices and computers.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2016 and ended in Aug 2016.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Digital and Electronic Device Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Modern technology has a lot to offer but some lack knowledge of its capabilities and how much we can push further to reach its full potential. Taking advantage of our technology can affect greatly on design thinking and aesthetic value of products. Making use of our technology pushes the boundaries of good design.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Home Speaker: LWH 40cm x 12cm x 27cm
Portable Speaker: LWH 8cm x 4cm x 6cm
TAGS: speaker, portable, home, bluetooth, wireless, phone, pairing
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The reasearch aimed to identify the relatioship of user and product when it came to music. Once the problem was figured out, ideation, 3d test and mock-ups were developed.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to create a cohesive design of both speakers. With less knowledge of modern technology, it would have left a gap in design aesthetics especially when focused on the function. To be able to change the behavior of the user in terms of organization, was a challenge as well.
