| DESIGN NAME: Lynko Freestanding Modular System PRIMARY FUNCTION: Nomadic modular freestanding system INSPIRATION: Our constant moving with my family meant never having a HOME, so I started to think of a way to carry with me a basic structure, like a shell, that could be a shelter. Something that would be a constant in each house. Inspired by Kondo's book, which challenges us with the question of what things we really need. By having everything on display, LYNKO offers users the chance to live efficiently only with the objects that bring them joy. It also offers the user the chance to design their own space UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Different sized metal frames and wooden hinges create an innumerable amount of configurations. These self standing structures can be clothes hangers, office panels , dividing screens, children's puppet theatre. The system comes with accessories such as mirrors, hooks, hangers, trays , shelves, leather or fabric pockets , etc. The frames can be moved by the hinges to adapt to any space. When needed it can be folded flat for storage or easy transport. At any time more frames OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user can choose any accesories they want and mix and match. the wooden hinges are two halves which can be unscrewed and attach or detach from the metal frames. the accesories are easily pluged on the hinges without the use of screws.The pockets are velcroed onto the frames. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2015 and finished in April 2016 and was exhibited at the Salone del Mobile 2016 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Main structure: bent metal frames (powder coated , copper or chrome ), wooden hinges ( oak or walnut ) Accesories : metal accesories such as shelves , pots and hooks. Storage pockets made of fabric, felt or leather SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The frames range from 0.28cm in width and 1.25 to 0.55cm in width and 1.63 height The hinges from 0.07 to 0.68 cm long The most basic structure ( two frames and four wooden hinges,weigh aprox, 4kg It can be packed easily by folding it . To make it shorter to fit the back of any car it can be separated in two just by pulling it out ( no screws needed ) TAGS: lynko, nomadic, modular, system, freestanding, customizable, multipurpose, flexible, architectural RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I have been researching into nomadic furniture but found that most were not suitable for being used in a most permanent or quality environment, I wanted something that as well as being transportable and transformable would be good quality and worth taking . That is why I try to use good quality materials, such as copper, wood , leather and good craftsmanship CHALLENGE: There are many steps and materials in this product, so it was hard to keep it efficient in cost.
