| DESIGN NAME: Multifunctional Sideboard PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Sideboard INSPIRATION: At the time when almost 40% of the population lives in crowded conditions and the average living space per person consists of 15,4 m2, multifunctional furniture has become the greatest solution. To make the most of the space you have, all you realy need ist a open mind! UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Sideboard by CreateSpace presents a solution to arrange little space at its best. It is able to adapt to the user's needs by the use of a few simple moves. This very intelligent module is capable of replacing 10 furniture items. With its decent size, consists of table with adjustable height and width which may be used in various ways such as a bar counter or a full-featured dining table for two to four people. Therefore, you may save up to 6,5 m2 in your apartment. Additionally, the sideboard maintains more than 60% of its storage space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This very intelligent module is capable of replacing 10 furniture items. It is able to adapt to the user's needs by the use of a few simple moves. The table can be utilized in various ways, for instance, as a dining table, bar counter or kitchen working unit. The sideboard also includes 6 comfortable chairs. The extraordinary approach taken to the storage space is achieved by the use of elastic and flexible ropes, which underline the original character trait of this item. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The sideboard is produced from high-quality oriented strand board and stainless steel. Besides its functional versatility, the sideboard catches the eye thanks to its different colour variations. In addition, this piece is easily and completely adaptable to your interior. You may either change the colour of the ropes or the wood as regards to your needs. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: All the functions that this multifunctional piece of furniture includes may consequently be adjusted into one compact entity with the maximum use of space. Also using ropes instead of classic doors led to experimentation with materials, mechanisms, and fabrication techniques. As the opening system was established, multiple iterations of physical models led to definig the distance and diameter of the ropes to ensure a satisfying interaction and transparecy. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to join the idea of minimalistic design with a functional domain that would not constrain ones personal comfort.
